Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana will, on 10 July 2019, table the Department of Communications (Vote 3) and Telecommunications & Postal Services (Vote 32) budget in Parliament.
Budget Vote debates are held on an annual basis and provide an opportunity for Parliament to discuss and then formally adopt, the budgets of government departments and entities that are funded through a parliamentary vote.
Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Kekana will provide an account of the departments’ commitments in the prior year and outline the priorities over the next financial year. Delivered under the theme, “Growing the Economy and Driving a Digital Society through the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)” the Minister and Deputy Minister will focus on the requisite policy interventions, portfolio reconfiguration and key programmes such as broadband rollout, broadcasting digital migration, 4IR skills as well as harnessing an enabling environment for youth, women and SMMEs in the sector.
Prior to the Budget Vote, the two departments, entities and stakeholders will conduct an exhibition which focuses on 4IR technologies.
